Two burnt to death in Cox’s Bazar fire

Shawdesh Desk: Two people, including a grocery shop owner, were burned to death as a fire broke out at Garjania Bazar of Ramu upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Firoz Ahmed, 53, owner of the grocery shop and a resident of Choto Jamchhari and Anwar Hossain, 16, an employee of the shop and son of Nur Quader of Shukmania village in the upazila.

Fire Service and Civil Defence sources said the fire broke out at the shop of Firoz at around 1:30am and spread soon to the adjoining shops.

On information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze after one and a half hours of frantic efforts.

Later, the fire service men recovered the charred bodies of Firoz and Anwar from inside the shop, said Kacchapia Union Parishad chairman Abu Ismail Mohamamd Noman.

Three other shops were also gutted in the fire.

Ramu upazila nirbahi officer Pronoy Chakma visited the spot.

UNO Pronoy provided Tk 25,000 each to the families of the deceased.
